Area code 713 was established in 1947 as one of the original area codes, covering all of Southeast Texas until growing demand led to new codes like 281 and 832 in 1996.
With so many folks transplanting to Houston, it is now the 4th largest city in the U.S. and with over 145 languages spoken, we are one of the most diverse— and around here, we’d rather bang our Screw, ride slab, eat good, and salute the city that’s blessed us with every opportunity to build, hustle, and shine. Houston, this one’s for you. Cheers!

Can You Spy the Tiny White Cabin?
713 Fun Fact:
The gothic one-room cottage nestled Downtown in Sam Houston Park was and is indeed a Church. Built by German and Swiss immigrants for their Evangelical Lutheran congregation, St. John German Evangelical Lutheran was founded around the year of 1860. More than just a few decades ago, long before the skyscrapers rose around us, this land was also home to white oaks and other tall native shade trees. Large groups would meet. Hundreds of memories made. However, in 1875 the original church was destroyed during a hurricane. Shortly rebuilt with newer yet humble features; this church site sat for only 15 years to come. That is until a renovation set in motion by the reverend was completed.
By 1891, the church was now re-open for worship. All of it made possible by the astonishing $920 spent on rebuilding the structure. The detailed craftsmanship includes every single wood panel being hand-made: inside and out, the classic arch window architecture, also the wood floor has been preserved and maintained all this time, it is the original flooring of 1891! Mainly unchanged from its original site standing as a quiet reminder of another era—a time-warped fragment frozen in place. —Oh and please do guess how much money the classic church-bell went for back in that day? A whopping sixty dollars!
This now Historic Houston Marker, is not open for actual Sunday service. The St. John Church does offer tours as low as $17. For those who fancy, you may rent the small church for a little under $3,200. The rental hours max-out at four hours, while the strict guest max capacity limit INSIDE the church is 65 guests. The entrance is wheel chair accessible. Truly, one of a kind. A Beautiful 19th century gem engulfed in the modern concrete jungle; **Click Here to Read Guidelines!
